“Tonion” Turkey Burgers

Quick, flavorful and delicious turkey burgers

Oh, how I wish I were a food photographer so these pictures could do this recipe justice!

While I’m totally taking credit for coming up with this recipe, I have to hand it to my husband for the creative title.

Appropriately named “tonion” turkey burgers, these babies are super flavorful, mostly due to the “ton of onions” used in this recipe.

Honestly, I don’t make a habit of winging dinners that often. I usually cook the tried and true staples that I’ve comfortably added to our dinner rotations, or I’m following an online recipe. On the off chance that I’m feeling creative/lazy and just go with it, there’s about a 50/50 chance that it will suck.

I’m just being honest here.

But these babies are the exception. I tested out enough turkey burger recipes beforehand to feel comfortable tweaking the basics and coming up with my own. I basically took a few flavors I really love and packed them into these MOIST (sorry if I made ya cringe) little meat patties.

The end result is a super quick, super yummy, super versatile, and super onion-y turkey burger that both my picky husband and non-picky toddler enjoy.

You can eat them plain, with sauce/dressing/condiments on top, in between buns, on top of a salad, or broken up in a wrap—the opportunities are endless!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 whole egg
  • ¼ cup bread crumbs (plain or Italian)
  • 2 whole scallions, chopped
  • ⅓ large red onion, diced
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp red pepper seeds
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 2 TBSP olive oil

*adjust S&P to preference

Directions

  1. On a stovetop, preheat a pan or cast iron skillet to medium heat— drizzle with olive oil.
  2. Mix all ingredients in a bowl until combined, and then form into 4 equal sized patties.
  3. Cook over medium heat for 7 minutes , and then flip to cook for 7 additional minutes on the other side. Burgers are cooked when you’ve reached an internal temperature of 165 degrees fahrenheit. (This is usually achieved for us after the 14-minute total suggested cooking time, though every piece of cookware is different.)

Serve with rice or potatoes and a side of veggies and voila—you’ve got dinner on the table in less than 30 minutes.

Here are a couple ways I’ve enjoyed them myself:
